The world of mobility equipment is constantly changing and because
of this, the person with mobility issues often has multiple options,
when it comes to choosing a vehicle. Mobility Scooters are often used
by seniors or for people with a disability in the upper body strength
and therefore they do not have the option to use non-motorised
wheelchairs. However, whilst mobility scooters have many advantages.
for the first time user, there can also be drawbacks.

When considering purchasing a mobility scooter one of the main thing
you may wish to consider is the needs of the person who will be using
it. The mobility scooters main function for a disabled person is to
increase the amount of mobility a user has, whilst conserving their
energy. Bearing this in mind, the most common users are people with
minor/major health conditions, , reduced physical stamina, multiple
sclerosis, stroke survivors and people suffering from cardiac
conditions. The controls of the electric scooter can often solve the
issue of poor mobility range, by offering easy manoeuvring options.

One of the main advantages to a mobility scooter is cost. These days
they are not overly expensive and maintenance is often very simple to
undertake. However, be aware, that the scooter is not easily stored and
you will need adequate space. Another thing to consider is that because
they are longer in length, they often have a limited turning radius,
making good vision and steering techniques are necessity to using the
vehicle.

Buying a mobility scooter or mobility wheelchairs
is no different to buying any other forms of transportation. Doing your
research beforehand or even testing some of the models will help you
find the right fit. Some distributors or manufacturers will often allow
a trial period, to help you determine which vehicles is right for your
needs. Make sure you ask lots of questions for instance, if you plan to
use the scooter a lot, what is the battery life like, will it be
adequate?

Another question to ask is what warranty does the vehicle have.
Purchasing a vehicle was good warranty and perhaps protection against
accidental damage or theft, will give you the peace of mind you won’t
lose your independence for long should the vehicle become inoperable.
You should find out what sort repairs or service will be carried out.
Do they offer a pickup service for the scooter, will they provide you
with a courtesy vehicle whilst, repairs are done.
